Sometimes, the\nnew information leads to negative feelings (anger, a sense of injustice, doubt, disgust, sadness), and other\ntimes, it leads to positive ones (relief, hope, joy, pleasure).\n
\n\nThis is where our power lies: the ability to change situations toward the desired outcome, or as close as\npossible to it. Let me give a simple example.\nThe Situation: A little girl disturbs her mother every night because mosquitoes are biting her, and she cries\nbecause it hurts. She gets angry because she doesn\u2019t understand why the mosquitoes are doing this, and\nshe\u2019s afraid to sleep.
\nThe Solution: The mother has tried all the safe ways to keep the mosquitoes out of the room, but with no\nsuccess. She then decides to learn more about mosquitoes to understand their behavior. The next night,\nshe talks to the little girl, who is afraid to sleep.\n\u201cI want you to understand that mosquitoes feed on ower pollen. The ones that bite you are all female.
\nThey take very little of your blood to feed and grow their eggs, their babies. They\u2019re not bad insects that\nwant to harm you; they\u2019re mothers protecting their babies, and you\u2019re helping them.\u201d\nThe change was evident in the following days, as the little girl still had some fear of sleeping and pain from\nthe bites, but the anger and complaints were gone, replaced with hope and pride.\n\u201cGrandma, I\u2019m helping the mosquito mothers grow their babies,\u201d was the key phrase the mother heard\nand realized that the perspective of the problem had permanently changed for her daughter for the better<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
